Welcome

Welcome to my blog. My name is Melissa Basinger Green, but I mostly just go by Missy. I am a 50-year-old widow, single mother to two grown boys, a 911 dispatcher and caretaker of 2 dogs, 2 cats and a herd of feral cats that expect me to feed them but refuse to let me touch them. Now, before you feel too sorry for me; I was widowed at the age of 27; a lifetime ago. I had been married for almost four years. Was it sad and tragic? Yes, but it also taught me about overcoming and thriving. My boys I adopted when I was in my mid-thirties, but I have an amazing family who helped me so much, I did not fell like I was alone in raising them. I have been a dispatcher for over seventeen years and feel like I do an okay job, though age can create its own challenges with this job, so I am planning on taking my early retirement in 2026 and go explore the world a little more.

I did not start this blog to harp about the obstacles in my life, though I will most likely touch on them some throughout my writing. I did, though, come here to share my hobbies. I love to write; I love photography and I love crafting. I also love travel and geology and history. I recently had the opportunity to drive out West to pick up my son from his summer job at the Grand Teton’s National Park and it re-sparked my love of travel and learning. I am now hoping to share all of this with you through my blog. I will share stories and pictures from my trip, but also some from other trips I hope to make much closer to home. I also hope to share funny and heartwarming stories from my life and experiences. I, of course, will also share my photographs and even offer some posters and prints of them, though that is not my main objective here.

I hope to share my adventures, my laughs, and my strengths; and maybe learn and hear from you as we travel together over this ethereal world of the internet. I also plan on sharing two photos today that I took tonight at the dog park. We have storms roaming around us and an almost full moon and it made for a very dramatic and wonderful night sky. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.
